The 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N will officially go on sale at 9:00am AEDT tomorrow (October 19) via the Hyundai Australia website following a flash-in-the-pan 12-hour pre-order period on September 15.
Still on track to deliver the first customer cars in the first quarter of next year, Hyundai Australia says there’s no limit on how many orders it can take for the high-performance electric crossover, in stark contrast to the sales ‘drop’ process previously used to sell initial batches of lesser IONIQ 5 variants.
It remains to be seen how many cars actually arrive next quarter and how long those at the back of the queue will have to wait for their new vehicle, but carsales understands Hyundai Australia was surprised with how many pre-orders it received last month.
Pricing for the IONQI 5 N starts at $111,000 plus on-road costs and just two optional extras will be available due to its loaded standard equipment list: a fixed glass roof ($2000) and matte paint ($1000).
Hiding underneath the hunkered-down but swollen body is a 478kW/740Nm dual-motor powertrain capable of launching the mid-size electric 'SUV' from 0-100km/h in 3.4 seconds on its way to a 260km/h top speed, making Hyundai's first electrified N-car more powerful and faster than the closely-related Kia EV6 GT.
The extroverted speed machine will also come with an arsenal of fun- and performance-enhancing features including N Drift Optimiser, N e-shift, N Active Sound+, Torque Kick Drift, two-mode battery pre-conditioning system, N Torque Distribution and an electronic limited-slip rear differential.
Adaptive dampers, a high-performance braking package and an N-exclusive 84kWh battery are all included as well.
Keep an eye out for an update to this story as more details of the IONIQ 5 N’s supply and availability situation in Australia come to light.
