The 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N will cost a cool $111,000 plus on-road costs and eager local customers will have just 12 hours to secure their vehicle when online pre-orders open on September 15.
As per the rest of Hyundai’s IONIQ EV portfolio, the high-performance battery-electric SUV will be available to purchase in Australia exclusively via the Korean brand’s public website.
The first batch of IONIQ 5 Ns will be offered online in a 12-hour pre-order window in which customers will be asked to pay a $2000 deposit, ahead of first deliveries in the first quarter of 2024.
The $111K asking price – before options and statutory charges – makes the first ever EV from Hyundai’s N Performance brand the most expensive Hyundai ever sold in Australia, just as its Kia EV6 GT sister model is the priciest Kia ever offered here ($99,590 plus ORCs), at least until the seven-seat Kia EV9 flagship electric SUV arrives.
But Hyundai justifies the IONIQ 5 N’s $11,410-higher price tag on account of its significantly higher power output (478kW versus 430kW) and its multitude of racetrack-intended performance features.
Hyundai has long promised the IONIQ 5 N would be the hard-core track weapon of the two, with the EV6 GT intended to be more of a road-going grand tourer as per its nameplate.
Similar to the i20 N and i30 Sedan N, the inaugural electric N-car will only be offered Down Under in a single highly-specified variant available with just two options: a ‘vision’ roof ($2000) and matte paint ($1000).
Extra paint colour choices will comprise Performance Blue Matte, Performance Blue, Abyss Black, Cyber Gray, Ecotronic Gray, Atlas White Matte, Atlas White, Gravity Gold Matte and Soultronic Orange.
Full Australian specification details will be announced closer to launch, but odds are the local examples won’t stray too far from the global spec sheet, if at all.
Standard equipment highlights at a global level include paddle shifters, a Bose sound system, vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, N bucket front seats, split-folding second-row, dual 12.3-inch displays with N-specific displays and read-outs, 21-inch alloy wheels, adaptive dampers and a bespoke multi-function steering wheel.
Today’s pricing announcement coincides with the IONIQ 5 N’s Australian debut at the Sydney leg of the 2023 World Time Attack Challenge, where its performance potential will be demonstrated by legendary drifter Keiichi Tsuchiya over the next two days.
Successful pre-sale customers will receive $1000 worth of N Performance merchandise when they take delivery of their vehicle and Hyundai Australia CEO Ted Lee says the pre-sale window provides Aussies with a great opportunity to snag one of the brand’s most defining and iconic new models.
We don’t know yet how many IONIQ 5 Ns will be made available for pre-order or how big the initial allocation will be, but the pre-sale window will open at 12:00pm AEST on September 15 and shut at 11:59pm that night.
