2024 Kia Carnival hybrid priced high in Korea
First hybrid powertrain to be the dearest version of Kia’s facelifted people-mover as the wraps come off its refreshed cabinThe updated 2024 Kia Carnival has been priced in its home market ahead of first deliveries starting later this month, with the refreshed people-mover set to start from 34.7 million won – the equivalent of $A41,209 plus on-road costs.
That opening figure is for the base petrol variant, whereas the equivalent diesel starts from 36.65 million won ($A43,517).
Obviously these prices don’t align with Kia Australia’s current (pre-facelift) Carnival line-up, which starts from $47,480 plus costs, and the facelifted model is set to be at least a couple of grand more expensive, potentially nudging the $50,000 mark.
More important, however, is the base domestic-market price for the new hybrid powertrain: 39.25 million won ($A46,605).
Although we’ll have to wait until a local announcement is made, the Korean pricing still gives us an indication as to how much more the Carnival’s new Sorento-sourced 1.6-litre turbo-petrol hybrid system will cost compared to its internal combustion counterparts.
Comparing apples with apples, we expect the new hybrid powertrain to command a similar $3000-$4000 premium over the diesel powertrain, as per the Sorento line-up and Korean pricing.
The KDM pricing announcement coincided with the reveal of the new Carnival’s interior, which is headlined by a BMW-style dual-display curved screen arrangement and a heap of extra tech including Kia Connect telematics, a haptic climate control panel, head-up display and fingerprint authentication.
As in other Kia models, the panoramic display houses a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment interface run by the car-maker’s latest operating system and sporting tweaked graphics.
Other upgrades include a bunch of new USB-C ports, digital rear-view mirror, new semi-autonomous driving functions, a built-in dash-cam, ‘ergo motion’ driver’s seat, wireless phone charging and over-the-air (OTA) updates.
Final specifications, range composition and pricing for the Australian market are all yet to be finalised ahead of the new Carnival’s arrival here in the first half of 2024.
