2024 Kia Picanto: Australian pricing and specs

Kia Australia reveals key specs for its facelifted micro-hatch

Kia Australia has released full specification details of its facelifted 2024 Kia Picanto city-car line-up which, as we’ve previously reported, will be priced from $17,890 plus on-road costs and comprises just two trim levels.

Justifying the pint-size hatchback’s $1600-$1950 price increases is an enhanced level of standard equipment for both the Sport and GT-Line grades, in addition to their radical new aesthetics.

Headline kit on the Sport includes 14-inch alloy wheels, premium artificial leather trim for the steering wheel and shifter, cloth seat upholstery, a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster, 8.0-inch floating infotainment screen, electric and folding wing mirrors, wireless smartphone mirroring, six-speaker sound system, manual air-conditioning and cruise control.

The posher GT-Line (from $19,690) steps features all of these items but rolls on 16-inch alloys and scores premium artificial leather upholstery, rear USB-C ports, a flat-bottom steering wheel, heated wing mirrors and LED exterior lighting.

Clear White is the standard exterior colour while Sparkling Silver, Signal Red, Aurora Black Pearl, Sporty Blue, Astro Gray and Adventurous are all optionally available.

No changes have been made to the naturally-aspirated 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol hiding under the bonnet which, as previously reported by carsales, misses out on the new five-speed automated manual transmission said to bring meaningful gains in fuel efficiency.

Instead, all Australian examples will soldier on with the familiar five-speed manual and four-speed torque converter automatic.

Still positioned as one of just two models available on the Australian market for less than $20,000, Kia Australia says the new Picanto has further reinforced its “suitability for young drivers” given its active safety suite is headlined by blind spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, lane follow assist and lane keep assist.

“Along with the updated product range, Picanto demonstrates Kia’s ongoing commitment to our customer base in providing a car to suit every lifestyle and stage of life,” said Kia Australia chief Damien Meredith.

For anyone wondering where the flagship Picanto GT is, the diminutive turbocharged warm hatch has been dropped globally as part of the facelift in the wake of shrinking international demand.

How much does the 2024 Kia Picanto cost?
Sport – $17,890 (+$1600)
Sport (a) – $19,490 (+$1600)
GT-Line – $19,690 (+$1950)
GT-Line (a) – $21,290 (+$1950)
* Prices exclude on-road costs
