The 2024 Lexus LBX will be available in two grades and with two drivetrains when the all-new pint-size luxury SUV is released in Australia next year, however, local pricing for the upmarket Yaris Cross sibling is yet to be announced.
The two trim levels in question are the entry-level Luxury and the higher-tier Sports Luxury, both of which will be powered by a previously detailed 1.5-litre three-cylinder hybrid powertrain outputting a combined 100kW.
Standard equipment highlights for the Luxury will include heated and perforated ‘NuLuxe’ leather-clad sport seats, memory function for the driver, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 9.8-inch central touch-screen with smartphone mirroring, powered tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, climate control and a panoramic view monitor.
The Sports Luxury will predictably up the ante with Ultrasuede leather-accented seat trim, automatic parking, active noise control, a 13-speaker Mark Levinson premium surround sound system and the option of all-wheel drive.
Neither the LBX nor the Yaris Cross on which it’s based are intended as performance models and that’s ultimately reflected by the tiny SUV’s claimed 9.2-second 0-100km/h time.
There’s no official fuel consumption figure yet, but it would be safe to assume it’ll be somewhere near the Yaris Cross Hybrid’s 3.8L/100km combined number.
Local pricing and full specification details will be announced closer to the model’s local release, but odds are the LBX will be priced from somewhere around the $40,000 mark, providing Lexus Australia with a new entry point to its range below the established UX small SUV.
“The all-new LBX breaks new ground for Lexus. It is proof that luxury is not dictated by vehicle size,” said Lexus Australia chief executive John Pappas.
“With LBX our designers have created a modern and compact urban SUV that delivers big on Lexus fundamentals of quality and craftsmanship, while offering responsive performance and great dynamics.”
The other all-new Lexus model coming to market in 2024 is the next-generation Prado-based Lexus GX off-roader, which is also due to arrive in the first half of the year.
