The 2024 Lucid Gravity high-performance battery-electric SUV has been teased ahead of its full reveal at the Los Angeles motor show on November 16.
Created to challenge the likes of the BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, as well as the Tesla Model X that helped pioneer the segment, the Lucid Gravity is said to blend stylish looks with supercar pace and innovative packaging.
Primed to be launched in right-hand drive markets, including Australia, as early as the second half of 2024, Lucid has provided a glimpse of the production SUV’s front-end that confirms the Gravity will pick up where the Lucid Air limo left off and feature smooth wind-cheating looks that incorporate a wraparound front light bar.
Full technical details have yet to be disclosed but we already know it will be offered with Lucid’s flagship triple-motor all-wheel drive powertrain that will incorporate a rear axle that produces 1000kW alone.
Expect total power to eclipse 1200kW, and for the fast family-friendly SUV to launch to 100km/h in little more than 2.0 seconds.
Drawing energy from a big 113kWh battery, the Gravity’s slippery aerodynamics should see it cover up to 700km between charges.
Less powerful models will also be available with 456kW and 588kW respectively, and when combined with a 75kWh battery the total range between top-ups will fall to around 400km for the entry-level rear-drive version.
In the US it’s been tipped the Lucid Gravity will be priced from $US80,000 ($A126,000).
Lucid design chief Derek Jenkins said he was “thrilled with the results we are seeing with Lucid Gravity, sparing no opportunity to build on everything we learned with Lucid Air to create something that warps the vehicle-class continuum”.
“It is both a supercar in disguise and an SUV with flexible passenger and cargo space that seems impossibly big relative to the exterior size of the vehicle,” he said.
“And it does this all with Lucid’s distinctive post-luxury design, inspired by California.”
Built at Lucid’s Arizona factory, SUV production has been scheduled to begin before the end of this year ahead of early reservations being taken at the beginning of 2024.
It’s thought the brand’s Australian launch is set to be timed to coincide with the UK launch that will follow Lucid’s arrival in mainland Europe next year.
