The replacement for the more road-friendly McLaren GT has been revealed in the form of the 2024 McLaren GTS, bringing more power and performance, less weight and enhanced practicality compared to its predecessor.
Priced from $419,392 plus on-road costs, the new GTS – like all McLarens – will be available globally in one highly-specified guise, headlined by Nappa leather upholstery, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 7.0-inch infotainment system, sat-nav, digital radio, ambient lighting and Bluetooth connectivity.
But the McLaren GTS is a supercar, so let’s delve into its considerable performance capabilities.
Power and torque are rated at 467kW and 630Nm respectively, courtesy of a twin-turbo 4.0-litre petrol V8 that yields a claimed 0-100km/h time of 3.2 seconds with the help of launch control, as well as 0-200km/h acceleration in 8.9 seconds and a top speed of 326km/h.
Stopping duties are handled by a carbon-ceramic brake package while a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is responsible for sending power and torque to the 21-inch rear wheels wrapped in 295/30 R21 tyres – the fronts wear 225/35 R20s.
The whole package is built around McLaren’s carbon-fibre MonoCell II-T monocoque tub and has a kerb weight of 1520kg, all of which is suspended by double-wishbone suspension arrangements front and rear, plus adaptive dampers at all four corners.
A GT car by name and intent but still ultimately a supercar, the GTS offers just 110mm of ground clearance in normal running but can increase that number to 130mm to help it cope with road furniture and the like, courtesy of a vehicle lift function that can transition from one extreme to the other in four seconds.
Storage space is rated at a combined 570 litres when you combine the 420L boot with the 150L frunk, something McLaren says makes the GTS the “most practical new supercar on sale today”.
“The new McLaren GTS offers an unmatched blend of McLaren driving dynamics and performance, with refinement and practicality,” said McLaren Automotive CEO Michael Leiters.
“When you want a true supercar driving experience, the GTS delivers that; when you want to relax on a longer journey with luggage for a weekend away, the GTS is an ideal companion.
“This is a car that is true to McLaren’s racing DNA but with multiple layers of ability.”
Combined fuel consumption and CO2 emissions for the new comfort-oriented speed machine are rated 11.9L/100km and 270g/km respectively, while warranty coverage is three years/unlimited-km.
