The all-new 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe will be priced from $103,900 plus on-road costs when it arrives in Australian showrooms next month, when two versions will become available before the CLE Cabriolet and AMG variants are released.
Said versions are the base CLE 200 and higher-spec CLE 300 4MATIC all-wheel drive ($124,900 plus ORCs), both of which are powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 150kW/320Nm and 190kW/400Nm respectively.
The internal combustion mills are supported by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system capable of contributing up to 17kW/205Nm during hard acceleration, though its primary role is to improve efficiency and produce a smoother drive experience. A nine-speed automatic transmission handles gear shifting duties.
That makes the CLE Coupe cheaper but also less powerful than its most direct rival, the BMW 4 Series Coupe, in its most basic forms – 2.0-litre rear-drive 430i ($109,700 plus ORCs, 190kW/400Nm) and 3.0-litre six-cylinder AWD 440i xDrive ($134,400 285kW/500Nm).
However, the CLE is 4850mm long, 1860mm wide and stands 1428mm tall, which technically puts it in the large coupe segment – one above the 4 Series and old C-Class coupe.
Serving as the coupe version of both the C-Class and E-Class sedans, the CLE rides 15mm lower than both models on sports suspension to emphasise its more athletic intent and deliver sharper dynamics, with the help of a pointier steering set-up.
Upping the visual factor, every Australian-delivered CLE will come fitted with an AMG-Line body kit and Night Package exterior trim as standard, plus black 19-inch AMG alloys.
Equipment highlights include an 11.9-inch infotainment interface, 64-clour ambient lighting package, Burmeister surround sound system, head-up display, panoramic sunroof, MBUX Navigation Premium package with augmented reality display, automatic seatbelt feeder, wireless phone charging, smartphone integration, 360-degree camera and adaptive cruise control.
Apart from AWD, the only major difference in equipment between the 200 and 300 4MATIC variants is upholstery: ARTICO ‘pleather’ for the 200 and leather for the 300.
