The facelifted 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE is about to arrive Down Under with a wealth of new toys, fresh powertrain technology and design upgrades – plus significantly elevated prices to match.
The upgraded large premium SUV range now comprises the 300d 4MATIC and 450d 4MATIC SUVs, the 450 4MATIC Coupe and the familiar 53 4MATIC+ and 63 S 4MATIC+ AMG duo, both of which are available in either body style.
Pricing for the new line-up starts at $144,900 plus on-road costs for the GLE 300d 4MATIC – marking a huge $25,000 jump in entry price – and extends up to $268,900 for the flagship GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ Coupe, with every variant being treated to some sort of upgrade.
As detailed previously, all the non-AMG variants have been treated to handsome power bumps thanks in part to the addition of a 48-volt mild-hybrid system as well as a few other upgrades.
The base 300d therefore now outputs 198kW/550Nm (+18kW/50Nm), while the six-cylinder 450d dishes out 270kW/750Nm (replacing the old 400d’s 243kW/700Nm).
The sole non-AMG petrol system meantime, the 450 4MATIC, scores an extra 10kW to boast 280kW/500Nm.
As with other models in its line-up, Mercedes-Benz Australia has taken the chance to consolidate the GLE’s spec and add a heap of standard kit previously available via the lengthy options list to streamline the purchasing process.
In the case of the GLE 300d and 450d the new gear comprises the AMG Line exterior pack, multibeam LED headlights, driving assistance package plus, memory package, parking package 360, keyless go, a Burmester surround sound system, MBUX augmented reality, a panoramic sunroof, head-up display and aluminium running boards.
The same applies to the AMG versions where relevant – AMGs have more features and sportier touches than lower grades – though the GLE 53 4MATIC+ does benefit from an extra 40Nm of torque, boosting its outputs up to 320kW/560Nm.
It’s a similar story for the Coupe line-up, except the 450 4MATIC also nabs an AMG Line interior treatment as standard, as well as the exterior Night Package to lend it an extra bit of attitude.
Options packages for the SUV include the $6000 Plus Pack, $3900 seven-seat configuration, $2900 towbar package and $3400 adaptive dampers, though the former two aren’t available on the GLE 63 S.
Meantime the Coupe can be had with the same towbar and suspension packs as well as the $1400 Guard 360 vehicle protection suite, but not the seven-seat configuration for obvious reasons.
