The 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV has been priced from $328,607 plus on-road costs, with Mercedes-Benz dealerships now taking orders ahead of first vehicle deliveries from next month.
Positioned as the absolute flagship of the Mercedes-Benz portfolio, the large electric luxury SUV is all about cosseting its rear occupants in first-class comfort.
Second-row highlights for the EQS 680 SUV include ventilated executive rear seats with massage function, neck and shoulder heating and a calf massage function, plus two 11.6-inch displays featuring the MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System and two wireless headsets.
Other premium touches comprise an MBUX rear tablet, MBUX Interior Assist, electrically-operated rear blinds, Chauffeur Package and a 15-speaker Burmester 4D surround-sound system.
The list continues with the innovative MBUX Hyperscreen multimedia display, Manufaktur Exclusive leather upholstery, a sliding glass roof, open-pore brown birch wood trims, Nappa leather headliner, 64-colour ambient lighting and the tailored ‘Aerial Grace’ powertrain noise.
These of course are just a handful of the EQS 680 SUV’s standard features, and those wanting even more toys can opt for the $14,900 First Class Rear Suite package, which adds rear armchairs, a heated rear-seat centre console extending from the front row, temperature-controlled cup holders, a fridge, champagne flute holders and a pair of folding tables.
A uniquely tuned and height-adjustable adaptive air suspension set-up takes care of bump absorption, with a new and even softer ‘Maybach’ mode replacing the EQS SUV’s usual ‘Comfort’ setting.
Rear-axle steering is also part of the chassis package, working to shorten the vehicle’s effective wheelbase in the name of manoeuvrability, along with Maybach-exclusive 22-inch alloy wheels.
The 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV is powered by a 484kW/940Nm dual-motor EV powertrain that’s capable of launching the big SUV from 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds and estimated to be able to cover up to 662km against the NEDC cycle.
The electric SUV’s big 108.4kWh battery can be DC fast-charged at up to 200kW, yielding a claimed 10-80 per cent charge time of 31 minutes.
This same system also powers the temporarily available EQS 680 SUV Night Series Edition, which retails from $363,507 and will come with a swathe of unique appointments.
These include dark chrome exterior trim, rose gold headlight emblems, black window trim, black spoilers, black running boards, 21-inch Maybach seven-spoke alloy wheels, herringbone dark brown open-pore walnut wood interior trim and Maybach black pearl Nappa leather upholstery.
“The very first all-electric vehicle from Mercedes-Maybach complements the best technologies from Mercedes-Benz with the extra comfort and individual details that are only available from Mercedes-Maybach,” said Mercedes-Benz Group AG board chairman Ola Källenius.
There are no direct rivals for the EQS 680 SUV in terms of sheer zero-emissions SUV opulence, however, the Bentley Bentayga is priced from $395,800 with V6 hybrid and V8 engines, and the V12-powered Rolls-Royce Cullinan is priced from close to $700,000.
