MG Motor Australia has announced a huge run-out sale of its first-generation HS medium SUV, with up to $16,000 able to be saved off the electrified versions.
MY22 versions of the HS Plus EV Excite has been slashed from $46,690 drive-away to just $34,990, firmly cementing the HS’ title of Australia’s cheapest plug-in hybrid, while the better-equipped Plus EV Essence now starts from just $37,990 – a saving of $15,700.
The discount means the latter now undercuts its closest competitor, the BYD Sealion 6 Premium, by the best part of $15,000 and the base-spec Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV by more than $25,000 by the time on-road costs are factored in.
For those in need of a refresher, the HS Plus EV’s powertrain pairs a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor and a 16.6kWh battery pack for a combined 189kW/370Nm and an electric-only range of up to 63km.
Inside the cabin you’ll find a 10.1-inch infotainment system housing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, complemented by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster on both trims.
Standard gear on the Excite includes heated and power-adjustable front seats, LED taillights, LED daytime running lights, 17-inch alloy wheels and MG’s Pilot Safety Suite, while the Essence adds a 360-degree camera, LED headlamps, 18-inch alloys, a panoramic sunroof, two-tone leather sport seats and a powered tailgate.
As well as the two hybrids, the more conventional petrol versions also get cheaper as part of the run-out sale.
The MY23 Vibe FWD has had its price cut by $5000 to $27,990 drive-away, while the MY23 Excite FWD now costs $6000 less than before at $29,990.
MY24 petrols, meantime, have had between $3000-$4000 trimmed off their asking prices.
Both the Vibe and Excite come with the same 10.1-inch infotainment, keyless entry, 17-inch rims, rear parking sensors and camera, a leather steering wheel and the same MG Pilot Driver Safety Suite as the earlier models.
Choose the MY24 Excite and you get larger 18-inch diamond cut wheels, ambient lighting, an electric tailgate, built-in satnav, a sports mode and LED headlamps.
If you’re wondering about the new second-generation MG HS, it remains priced from $33,990 drive-away for the base Vibe, $36,990 for the Excite and $40,990 for the Essence flagship.
