2024 MINI Cooper and Countryman EVs set for September 1 reveal
MINI prepares to unveil all-new battery-electric Cooper hatch and Countryman SUVThe all-new 2024 MINI Cooper and MINI Countryman EVs will be officially unveiled on September 1 ahead of their launch in Australia next year.
The BMW-owned British brand, which has been teasing both cars extensively in recent months, has posted a single darkened image overnight on the BMW Group YouTube channel of both the next-generation MINI Cooper SE and the battery-powered Countryman.
Most recently, MINI released pictures of the production Cooper SE’s minimalist cabin that is dominated by a big 9.4-inch circular OLED screen, evoking the simplicity of the original classic early Mini sedan and promising it will mimic a combustion-powered 1960 Cooper or 2006 JCW on the move.
We already know the next-generation MINI Electric will be based on an all-new architecture developed in collaboration with China’s GWM and which is already employed by the GWM Ora sold in Australia.
It will also be built in China.
At launch, there will be two versions of the new 2024 MINI Electric – one with 135kW and another with 160kW. A dual-motor JCW model is expected to follow, producing at least 300kW.
The hatch will draw energy from a 40kWh or 54kWh battery that will provide a range of between 300-400km.
The third-generation Countryman has also been spotted testing and officially teased off-road.
Set to be offered with an all-electric powertrain for the first time, the MINI SUV shares its UKL2 architecture with the current BMW X1 and pure-electric iX1.
Claimed to be 130mm longer and stand 60mm taller than the current MkII F60-series Countryman, the new version will be the biggest MINI yet.
There’s no official confirmation on what powertrains will feature in the all-electric Countryman, but the flagship version is likely to feature a dual-motor powertrain pushing out 230kW and almost 500Nm of torque.
A 64.7kWh battery, meanwhile, should provide for a range of more than 450km.
Inside, expect the Countryman to get a development of the incoming round 9.4-inch OLED infotainment system that will run BMW’s latest OS9 operating system.
A final teaser on both cars is expected in the coming days.
