MINI Australia has announced a drastic expansion of the third-generation 2024 MINI Countryman line-up that arrives next month, with the battery-electric E and SE ALL4 variants and the hot John Cooper Works (JCW) flagships now confirmed to join the all-new small SUV range in the third quarter of this year.
Pricing for the new electric versions will start from $64,990 and top out at $77,990, while the hot JCW will start slightly lower than before at $67,990 (all excluding on-road costs).
Starting with the EVs, two zero-emission powertrains will be offered here in the form of the base E and the gruntier SE ALL4, which as the name suggests packs a second electric motor and all-wheel drive.
The base system comprises a singular 150kW/250Nm motor and a 63.8kWh lithium-ion battery pack capable of accelerating the small electric SUV to 100km/h in 8.3 seconds and covering up to 462km on a single charge. The SE ALL4 packs 230kW/494Nm, stops the clock in 5.6sec and will cover up to 433km using the same battery pack.
Both electric powertrains will be available in three grades – Core, Classic and Favoured for the E, and Classic, Favoured and JCW Sport for the SE ALL4 – with varying levels of equipment.
Headline gear on the Country E Core ($64,990) includes cruise control, a six-speaker sound system, parking assistant, sport seats and steering wheel, wireless smartphone mirroring and projection, MINI Experience mode with extended ambient light projection and black trim accents.
The E Classic ($67,990) builds on that basis with adaptive cruise control, parking assistant plus with surround view, automatic speed limit assistant, steering and lane control assistant, an interior camera, augmented reality sat-nav, heated front seats and a panoramic glass roof.
Going one better again is the E Favoured ($70,990) with a 12-speaker Harman/Kardon premium sound system, power-adjustable JCW seats with memory function, active seat functions for the driver, sun protection glazing, black headliner, silver trim elements and brown accents.
Moving over to the SE ALL4 portfolio, the Classic ($72,990) features pretty much all the same kit as the E Classic but throws in sport seats and some ALL4 exterior design cues to help distinguish the dual-motor version from the lesser single-motor.
It’s exactly the same story with the Favoured ($75,990), while the JCW Sport throws in JCW steering wheel, JCW body kit, red or black sport stripes depending on the body colour, sporty black and red interior and an uprated braking package.
The Countryman JCW family is also broken into three distinct trim levels, all packing the same 233kW/400Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Zero-100km/h takes 5.4sec and top speed is limited to 250km/h.
Pricing for the hot JCW-badged SUVs starts from $67,990 in base Core guise, which nets buyers adaptive dampers, JCW Sport brakes, cruise control, parking assistant with front sensors and rear camera, a 12-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system, JCW seats and body kit, black headliner, JCW steering wheel, red and black interior colour scheme, wireless phone projection and charging and keyless entry as standard.
Spend another couple of grand on the Classic ($70,990) and you’ll nab adaptive cruise control, parking assistant plus with surround view, automatic speed limit assistant, steering and lane control assistant, an interior camera, augmented reality sat-nav, heated front seats, a panoramic glass roof and sport stripes.
The flagship Favoured then adds JCW Performance brakes, active driver seat functions, power-adjustable front seats with memory and sun protection glazing.
All MINI Australian vehicles are backed by a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, as per the rest of the BMW Group fleet.
