2024 Pagani Huayra R Evo revs to 9200rpm

Insane new Pagani track toy outputs 662kW/770Nm and weighs less than 1100kg

As predicted, the mystery Pagani track special teased yesterday is another ultra-limited Huayra variant, specifically dubbed the 2024 Pagani Huayra R Evo – the most intense and capable iteration of the Huayra to date.

Inspired by the Le Mans racers of yesteryear, the Huayra R Evo takes the already beautifully ludicrous Huayra R and dials everything up another couple of notches with even higher engine outputs, even more performance, 50 per cent more downforce, revised suspension and a longer body with no roof.

The Evo is more than 200mm longer than the standard R, with most of the extra length being added behind the rear axle similar to the Huayra Codalunga, except this time around the longtail arrangement is crowned by huge new rear aero assembly that helps generate 45 per cent more downforce than the standard R’s aero package.

Up front is an all-new splitter that adds more downforce and helps divert more air into the redesigned ducts and upgraded braking package, which comprises new CCM-R self-ventilated carbon-ceramic discs and bespoke racing pads.

There’s also an all-new damping system for the active double-wishbone suspension and the whole ensemble grips the ground with wider 280/680 R19 front and 345/725 R20 rear Pirelli P Zero slick tyres.

And the engine? It’s an upgraded version of the Huayra R’s free-breathing 6.0-litre V12 rated to 662kW/770Nm – up from 625kW/750Nm – and capable of revving out to a screaming 9200rpm.

A six-speed sequential transmission is still the default option, but it too has been brought in for a raft of enhancements.

Pagani has never been one to brag about the headline performance figures of its track cars, given they’re more about lap times and driver enjoyment than drag-strip or outright speed records, but a dry weight of just 1060kg and outputs of 662kW/770Nm should put plenty of road-legal supercars on notice.

Top speed is pegged at an official 350km/h and the Huayra R Evo generates more than 1100kg of downforce at 320km/h.

Keeping the driver and lucky passenger secure in the cabin are a pair of six-point harnesses, carbon-fibre head restraints with lateral protection and fire-proof upholstery.

The seat padding is made of Ener-Core EC 50 foam designed to perfectly adapt to the body shape of vehicle occupants for maximum comfort and support.

It isn’t clear exactly how many Huayra R Evos will be produced over the next couple of years, but a safe bet would be a production run of less than 30 units, all priced sky-high and likely reserved for the brand’s most loyal owners.

There’s even a slim chance a couple pf units could make it to Australia, since the Huayra R Evo can be configured in either left- or right-hand drive.

“This fascinating project engaged the entire team for approximately two years, involving extensive testing and participation in Arte in Pista events on track,” said Pagani founder, CEO and chief designer Horacio Pagani.

“We gathered valuable insights from our customers, collaborating closely with longstanding partners such as Pirelli and Brembo to develop top-tier components for a high-performance and distinctive vehicle like the Huayra R Evo.”
