The 2024 Renault Kangoo compact van is now more accessible as three new turbo-petrol variants join the latest-generation range, which up until now has been EV-only.
The new entry-level SWB manual Kangoo starts from $38,990 plus on-road costs, with auto adding $3000 and the auto-only LWB body style starting from $43,990 plus ORCs.
That compares to the battery-electric SWB E-Tech that starts at $61,990 plus ORCs, or $63,990 in LWB guise.
Whereas the EVs use a 90kW/245Nm e-motor and 45kWh battery pack enabling a 285km (WLTP) driving range, the combustion-engined versions all rely on a 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 96kW/240Nm.
Transmissions choices comprise a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, with fuel consumption ranging from 6.2-6.4L/100km.
The LWB automatic can swallow up to 4.2 cubic metres of cargo and has a maximum payload of up to 746kg compared to the SWB’s 3.3 cubic metres and 563kg payload – 548kg for the manual.
That’s an improvement over the SWB E-Tech payload at 523kg, and the LWB at 668kg, while maximum braked towing capacity remains 1500kg across the range.
Standard equipment highlights common to all petrol variants include an 8.0-inch infotainment system, automatic headlights/wipers, a 4.2-inch TFT driver’s display, reversing camera, rear parking sensors, cruise control, electric front windows, air-conditioning, heated and electrically adjustable door mirrors, automatic stop/start and a full-size spare wheel.
Standard safety systems include autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian, cyclist and junction detection, hill start assist and lane departure warning.
Buyers can opt for the $3200 Business Pack, $1200 Trade Pack or the $1500 Peace of Mind Pack (extra safety equipment), the contents of which are detailed below.
Individual options include a payload upgrade (+200kg) for SWB models, a smart rear-view mirror ($800), glazed left- and right-hand side sliding doors ($400) and metallic paint ($800). The RHS sliding door on SWB is also a no-cost delete option.
Every Kangoo variant, including the EVs, is covered by a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty.
