2024 Renault Megane E-Tech discounted indefinitely

Reduced promo pricing made permanent as French brand looks to continue small electric SUV’s sales momentum

The temporary $10,000 discount available for the 2024 Renault Megane E-Tech since mid-May has now been made permanent, meaning the small French electric SUV will remain priced from $54,990 plus on-road costs as opposed to its original retail price of $64,990 plus ORCs announced in August 2023.

Word from Renault Australia is that there was an influx of orders following the announcement of the Megane’s promotional pricing, prompting it to leave the revised figure in place indefinitely.

Following the new EV’s local release in February, the company has delivered 171 Megane E-Tech vehicles as of June 30 this year, making it one of the slowest-selling small SUVs on the market at any price point and more popular than only the Citroen C4 (15), Genesis GV60 (46), Mazda MX-30 (93), Jaguar E-Pace (89) and Alfa Romeo Tonale (162).

In contrast, premium compact electric SUV rivals like the Mercedes-Benz EQA (624) and Volvo EX30 (1001) have proven far more successful in Australia.

But the Megane E-Tech’s new pricing puts it roughly on par with EVs including the Hyundai Kona Electric Standard Range small SUV, the MG4 Essence 74kWh hatchback and the Tesla Model Y RWD mid-size SUV –the entry-level version of Australia’s favourite EV (with 12,516 sales in the first half of this year).

Only one version of the Megane E-Tech is offered here – the Techno EV60 – and it comes loaded with equipment including 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, recycled cloth and leatherette interior trim, 48-colour ambient lighting, a 9.0-inch infotainment interface, 12-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging and a six-speaker Arkamys auditorium audio system.

Power is provided by a 60kWh lithium-ion battery pack while drive comes from a 160kW/300Nm electric motor mounted on the front axle – a combination that yields a claimed range of up to 454km.

Fast-charging capabilities are rated at up to 130kW when using DC power – something that Renault says will take the battery from 15 to 80 per cent of its capacity (equating to about 300km of range) in 30 minutes.
