The first official teaser of the production-spec Skoda Elroq SUV has dropped ahead of its global reveal in spring, when the striking new compact electric SUV will kickstart the brand’s new ‘e-model campaign’ that will see six battery-electric models released by the end of 2026.
Pitched as the battery-electric alternative and eventual successor of the small-medium Karoq, the 2024 Skoda Elroq will be the first model to adopt the car-maker’s new minimalist ‘Modern Solid’ design language, although this shadowy preview image shows little more than a thin upper lighting signature and illuminated grille.
Thankfully, our Euro spy photographers have also managed to spot a camouflaged Elroq prototype being tested on the Continent, revealing a split headlight design and a broader stance than the popular Karoq.
Short overhangs contribute to the aggressive stature, while a generous roof spoiler adds a subtle touch of athleticism in tandem with the flicked rear bumper.
Skoda designers said the new lighting arrangement characterises the entire front-end design since the daytime running lights “seamlessly extend into the wings”, while the upper grille has been dubbed the ‘Tech-Deck Face’ and will be applied in some variety to all the forthcoming Skoda EVs.
Little is said officially about the rear-end, but we can see from the spy shots things will be much more familiar in terms of the tailgate and tail-light design, and the rear bumper protrudes noticeably further out than on the current Skoda models.
“My team and I are thrilled to present the preview of the first Škoda model to incorporate the new Modern Solid design language such as the Tech-Deck Face and a more robust overall look,” said Skoda design boss Oliver Stefani.
“Moreover, it is the first car in our portfolio to feature Škoda lettering on its sharply contoured bonnet. No doubt, our brand-new Elroq sets a new tone and is a real eye-catcher.”
Hiding underneath the futuristic body is the Volkswagen Group’s widely used MEB EV architecture, with both single- and dual-motor powertrain configurations already locked in.
Odds are the Elroq will share most of its components with the upcoming Volkswagen ID.4 mid-size electric SUV, pointing to a 62kWh battery capacity for the lower grades and bigger 82kWh pack for higher grades, including the sporty Elroq RS.
It’s expected the Elroq’s global reveal will be followed by that of the pint-size Skoda Epiq, which has already been shown in concept form and presents its own take on the Tech-Deck Face and split-headlight arrangement.
Cut from the same cloth as the Volkswagen ID.2 and Cupra Raval, the Skoda Epiq is expected to be priced from around $41,000 in Europe with its creators previously nominating a €25,000 target base price.
