Skoda has locked in a Valentine’s Day reveal for the facelifted 2024 Skoda Octavia and simultaneously released a series of revealing concept sketches previewing facelifted mid-size car’s updated design.
Closely resembling the new-generation Superb but with a unique V-shaped DRL signature, the updated 2024 Skoda Octavia follows the familiar recipe of being classy and understated in standard form and subdued but purposeful in RS guise.
As usual for a facelift, the design changes are far from drastic, but it seems Skoda designers have sharpened their pencils this time around, with the new model flaunting some more pronounced crease lines, while the RS looks to take inspiration from the new Volkswagen Golf GTI in terms of its front bumper elements.
The updated DRLs primarily serve to sharpen the look but also denote the inclusion of the VW Group’s second-generation Matrix LED headlight technology, which will be available across the range – more than likely in tandem with a major cabin technology upgrade, as per the Superb and Golf.
Splitting the new headlight clusters is a refined grille design, which in turn sits atop a redesigned front bumper, complemented at the back by a similarly redesigned rear apron.
“Revitalising and evolving the design characteristics of our brand icons is both a demanding and fascinating task,” said Skoda design boss Oliver Stefani.
“With this fresh look and new features… the Octavia will continue to captivate everyday explorers in the coming years.”
Using the updated VW Golf line-up as a reference – given the two models share their platform and powertrain hardware – the new Octavia looks set to inherit some fairly major powertrain upgrades, headlined of course by a 15kW peak power increase for the top-spec RS.
The plug-in hybrid variants meantime – not offered in Australia – will almost certainly score bigger and more advanced battery packs, plus new engines and motors, which should yield some healthy increases in driving range, efficiency and performance.
Skoda has thus far confirmed the SportLine will return to the range as a stopgap between the standard variants and the flagship RS, and the entire MY24 Octavia portfolio tipped to arrive Down Under in the final quarter of this year.
