The upgraded 2024 Ssangyong Musso range is about to arrive in local showrooms, bringing new variants, a new interior and new pricing as part of the Korean ute’s second major update.
Pricing for the entry-level ELX now starts from an even $40,000 drive-away (+$1210) and extends up to $46,500 (+$1910) for the flagship Ultimate XLV, however, the two established players are now split on price and spec by the new Adventure trim which starts from $42,500.
But anyone hoping for some capability-enhancing upgrades shouldn’t hold their breath as the Adventure theme only extends to the nameplate as opposed to its kit list (details below).
The mildly increased pricing of the ELX and Ultimate grades have been brought about primarily by the 2024 Musso’s sleek new dash layout, which sees the entire arrangement redesigned with integrated air-vents and an all-new 12.3-inch infotainment interface taking pride of place at the top as per other Korean offerings.
Adding to the newfound sophistication is an equally new climate control panel operated via a combination of haptic controls and buttons, as well as new ‘four-fold’ LED fog lights for the Ultimate (and Adventure).
Standard equipment highlights on the base ELX then largely remain the same as before save for the new infotainment system, meaning 17-inch alloys, cruise control, smartphone mirroring, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, leather steering wheel, a reversing camera, assisted tailgate and cloth upholstery are all still included in the price.
The new Adventure uses the ELX and the basis for its own equipment list, adding black 18-inch hoops, speed sensitive power steering reach adjustment, heated and cooled leather-look seats and tyre pressure monitoring.
This is bettered again by the Ultimate, which throws in a 360-degree camera, HID headlights, heated steering wheel, walk-up welcome system and keyless entry with walk-away locking, but dual-zone, climate control, a sunroof, premium leather seats with power adjustment in the front and heated rear outer seats are also available via the $3000 Luxury pack.
The Ultimate also ships with more active safety features than the ELX and Adventure, specifically blind spot warning, rear cross traffic warning, lane change-collision warning and safety exit warning in addition to the range-wide autonomous emergency braking, front vehicle start warning, forward collision warning, lane departure warning and smart high-beam.
No changes have been made to the Musso’s familiar 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, the six-speed automatic transmission it’s paired to or the part-time 4x4 system, meaning the short-wheelbase still output 133kW/400Nm while the XLVs dish out 133kW/420Nm.
That said, engineers have been working to improve the ute’s already decent ride-handling balance through the development and inclusion of new lower body to chassis mounts.
A new colour has also been added to the mix – Amazonian Green – which takes the total palette to six in addition to the existing Grand White, Pearl White, Marble Grey, Space Black, and Indian Red.
