Subaru Australia has slashed $8000 from the starting price of its upcoming Solterra electric SUV ahead of its pending release this month, with the price adjustment applying to all existing and future orders.
The change means the Japanese brand’s inaugural EV will now start from $69,990 plus on-road costs instead of the previous $77,990 and top out at $76,990 plus ORCs – instead of $83,690.
Subaru hasn’t provided a reason for the adjustment, but the mid-size electric SUV will now definitely be cheaper than the inbound Volkswagen ID.4 – which is expected to be priced from above $75K – and not too much more than the related Toyota bZ4X, which is being launched next week.
However, unlike Toyota and Volkswagen, Subaru’s all-new mid-size electric SUV will be all-wheel drive only – like all Subarus in Australia except the BRZ – and not available in front-drive (bZ4X) or rear-drive (ID.4 and ID.5) forms.
“Subaru Australia has announced a price adjustment for the brand’s all-new, all-electric Subaru Solterra ahead of its imminent launch and first customer deliveries,” said the company today.
“The readjusted pricing will apply to all existing pre-orders, with no further action required from customers as their Subaru Retailer will communicate with them directly on their individual vehicle order.”
Still included in the price is a complimentary five-year service plan, five years of roadside assistance, carpet mat set, cargo tray and a 2kW AC charging cable with a 10-amp wall plug.
The brand has also confirmed that first customer cars have arrived on Australian soil, while the first demonstrators are now starting to appear in dealerships around the country, meaning those thinking of placing an order can now sample the first electric Subaru before buying one.
