Tesla is hotly tipped to pull back the curtains on its long-awaited all-new electric hatchback that will rival the Volkswagen ID.3 and will be based on the US brand’s all-new third-generation architecture.
Set to be revealed at the Tesla Investor Day that kicks off later today, the new hatchback – unofficially known as the 2024 Tesla Model 2 – will sit below the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y and is being readied with a price tag of around $US25,000 ($A37,000).
The latest teaser, which forms part of an ‘Engineering HQ Opening’ video clip backs up an earlier leaked image from China that showed Tesla is plotting a smaller hatchback that looks to include a three-door body style.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is also expected to confirm that the Model 2 will be based on the next Generation 3 vehicle architecture.
Previously, the new platform has been heralded by Musk as the key to slashing production costs while helping the car-maker ramp-up production to twice what it makes today.
There’s no word yet on what battery will power the cheapest Tesla but it’s thought it will have a range of between 400-500km to compete with the best in class.
As part of a dramatic overhaul of the ageing range, which includes the Model S (2012), Model X (2016) and Model 3 (2017) and Model Y (2019), all future Teslas will migrate to the flexible Generation 3 platform.
Stay tuned as more will be released as the Tesla Investor Day gets underway.
