2024 Toyota Yaris Ascent Hybrid starts below $29,000

Cheaper entry-level hybrid model now available as Toyota ushers in upgrade for Yaris light hatch range

Toyota Australia has ushered in a new entry-level 2024 Toyota Yaris Ascent Hybrid, priced from $28,500 plus on-road costs, as part of an overhaul for the city hatch range that was earlier this month confirmed as moving to an all-hybrid line-up.

The Yaris SX Hybrid and ZR Hybrid models continue, priced from $31,960 and $34,530 plus ORCs respectively, which represents a price hike of up to $1770.

Softening the blow is a useful technology and safety equipment upgrade that includes a new 8.0-inch infotainment system across the range and, for SX and ZR, a configurable 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster.

The new infotainment system brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cloud-based satellite navigation for the Ascent Sport, cloud-based and embedded satellite navigation for the SX and ZR and a new USB-C audio jack for all grades.

As seen on the updated Toyota Yaris Cross that’s also now on sale, the revised driver assist safety suite adds motorcycle and oncoming vehicle detection for the autonomous emergency braking (AEB), as well as enhanced intersection collision avoidance (day), emergency steering (day), active cruise control and lane trace assist systems.

Other changes include a parking support brake with front and rear parking sensors for the SX, while the ZR scores safe exit assist in conjunction with the blind spot monitor.

Designers have tweaked the Yaris’ grille while the exterior colour palette now comprises Glacier White, Frosted White, Stunning Silver, Ebony, Atomic Rush, Coral Rose, Bronx Bronze and Massive Grey.

Fresh cloth seat upholstery has also found its way into the cabin.

No changes have been made to the 85kW 1.3-litre three-cylinder petrol-electric hybrid powertrain, which drives the front wheels via an e-CVT.
