The upgraded 2024 Volkswagen Golf GTI, GTE, Wagon and standard hatch have all been leaked online less than a week out from their global debuts, with undisguised examples of each being snapped and posted to Instagram.
While this isn’t the first time a Mk8.5 Golf has been leaked recently, it is the first time we’ve seen examples in the metal and unobscured, with the images looking to have been taken on the set of the official VW reveal photoshoot.
So what’s changed? Well, the most obvious alterations are the alloy wheels designs on all pictured models, but beyond that the front bumpers on the sports models have evolved to be less guppy and more like that of the flagship Golf R.
This means the integrated honeycomb fog lights have been binned and replaced by a full-width LED lighting strip between the sharpened headlights, mirroring a coloured strip representative of the powertrain – red for the GTI and blue for the GTE.
Other changes include new tail-light graphics for both models, which we assume will carry over to the rear-ends of the standard hatch and wagon variants – just like the full-width LED strip does up front.
The strip is joined on the base/regular variants by a new front bumper now flaunting two slats instead of the previous three, however, the R-Line is exempt from this arrangement and wears a strikingly similar apron to the GTI and GTE, given the R-Line has long been an R lookalike without the savage performance.
We can’t see the interior of any of the vehicles but previous spy imagery revealed an all-new widescreen infotainment system and centre fascia arrangement for the dash, the former undoubtedly powered by the latest-generation operating system and displaying sharpened graphics.
The Mk8.5 Golf line-up will make its public debut next week and go on sale in Europe in the months following, whereas Aussie consumers will likely have to wait until early 2025 to see the updated model in local showrooms – almost certainly with the familiar array of powertrains.
