2024 Volkswagen ID. Buzz GTX teased

Performance-flavoured electric people-mover van is getting closer and has been earmarked for Australia

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Australia has teased the imminent reveal of a new GTX-badged electric vehicle – a model virtually guaranteed to be the hotted-up 2024 VW ID. Buzz GTX.

The German brand’s local commercial vehicle division only has one EV on the horizon at the moment: the ID. Buzz people-mover (along with its ID. Buzz Cargo van derivative), a hot GTX version of which has been on the cards for more than 18 months.

The car was first teased in October 2022 before a long-wheelbase version was spotted testing by our spy photographers in August last year wearing a range of VW Golf R-inspired design cues and some funky alloy wheels.

This latest and far more revealing teaser takes the form of a 24-second TVC-style video showing off various elements of the nippy electric MPV, including its more aggressive front and rear bumpers, sports steering wheel, angry wheel design, piano-black interior trim elements and of course some obligatory GTX badging.

Expected to borrow elements of its dual-motor powertrain from the ID.4 and ID.5 GTX mid-size SUV twins, the ID. Buzz GTX should be good for outputs of about 250kW/460Nm, while its 81-91kWh battery pack is tipped to provide a cruising range of between 400-450km.

Volkswagen Group Australia has previously confirmed a performance version of the ID. Buzz will be released Down Under, where it could be seen as an indirect replacement for the now-axed VW Passat R-Line 206TSI Wagon and, to a lesser extent, the retired Golf R Wagon.

carsales sources have indicated that more details and, potentially, a global reveal is only a matter of days away – if not within a couple of weeks.

It’s unclear whether the GTX flagship will be released in Australia alongside the rest of the ID. Buzz portfolio in the final quarter of this year, or if it will join the electric van range here in early 2025.
