The 2025 Audi Q5 Sportback has made its public debut in Germany and will arrive Down Under in the fourth quarter of next year.
Audi Australia has also confirmed to carsales the new-generation Q5 will be subject to a staggered roll-out, with the wagons arriving at least a couple of months ahead of the sleeker Sportbacks.
Local pricing and spec details are all TBC at the time of writing, but it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to see the Sportback looks identical to its five-door twin apart from its roofline and rear end.
As per the wagon range, every new-generation Q5 Sportback will come with a mild hybrid powertrain allowing for emission-free manoeuvring and parking while temporarily providing an extra 18kW of power during hard acceleration.
Three systems have been detailed thus far but word is there are plenty more in the pipeline, including plug-in hybrids (PHEVs).
Early European adopters will be able to choose from a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder (150kW/340Nm) with the option of all-wheel drive, a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel (150kW/400Nm) that’ll be exclusively all-wheel drive or a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol (270kW/550Nm) reserved solely for the flagship SQ5.
All variants feature a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission as standard.
Naturally the Q5’s boot space has been trimmed as a result of the Sportback’s sloping roof and tailgate, albeit by just five litres: 520L vs 515L with the rear seats in place, however the margin blows out to 58 litres when the second row is folded (1473L vs 1415L).
As per the exterior, the rest of the Sportback’s cabin is identical to the Q5 wagon’s in terms of the dash layout, materials and headline features.
More details of the new-generation Audi Q5 will be released in the lead-up to its local release next year.
