2025 BMW 3 Series 50 Jahre Edition launches

Commemorative special edition based on the M340i to mark half a century of BMW’s sports sedan

The BMW 3 Series turns 50 this year and to celebrate the German brand has rolled out a new 2025 BMW 3 Series 50 Jahre Edition that’s based on its flagship M340i xDrive.

Just 50 examples will be available in Australia. All are powered by a twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, with each priced from $127,600 plus on-road costs (ORCs) when deliveries begin in the final quarter of 2025.

Claimed to feature a unique specification tailored to the Australian and New Zealand markets, all the new special editions are painted in BMW Individual Anthracite Metallic paint and come with an anniversary build plaque on the centre console.

The 3 Series 50 Jahre Edition also gains 19-inch jet black M light alloy wheels, carbon-fibre interior trim and the M Sport Package Pro – that adds red brake calipers, M seat belts and an M rear spoiler.

Under the bonnet, the M340i xDrive’s twin-turbo 3.0-litre engine carries over unchanged and still produces 285kW and 500Nm. Combined with an eight-speed auto, the special edition takes just 4.4 seconds to spring from 0-100km/h.

Standard equipment carried over from the M340i xDrive includes adaptive M suspension, M sport differential, adaptive LED headlamps, electric boot lid, sunroof, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 14.9-inch infotainment system, heated electric seats, heated steering wheel and a wireless phone charger.

Now in its seventh generation, BMW says the current iteration is the brand’s highest-selling 3 Series. Since VFACTS records begun, BMW has sold more than 191,000 3 Series in Australia, with the sedan outselling the X3 and X5.

First introduced back in 1975, the ‘E21’ 3 Series was originally rolled out as a replacement for the 2002.

While the brand’s trademark inline six-cylinder engine wasn’t introduced until two years later in 1977, it took until 1983 and another generation (E30) before BMW offered its small sports sedan with four doors.

The eight-generation ‘Neue Klase’ 3 Series is set to debut in 2026. It’s based on an all-new architecture that will see the sports sedan offered with state-of-the-art EV tech, as well as hybrid and petrol powertrains.
