The 2025 BMW Concept Speedtop shooting brake has been officially revealed at this year’s Villa d’Este concours classic car fest held at Lake Como, Italy, with the German brand announcing it will be pushing it into limited production.
The wild BMW M8-based shooting brake will be made in a limited run of 70 cars, with each BMW Concept Speedtop rumoured to cost around €510,000 ($A900,000).
Announcing the small batch of cars will be made “for collectors and enthusiasts”, BMW has not announced whether it will make the Speedtop in right-hand drive, but it’s thought the smaller numbers means it’s unlikely, probably ruling it out for Australia.
Closely related to the 2024 BMW Skytop that was unveiled in Lake Como last year, the new two-door wagon is based on the BMW M8 but has been inspired by the Z3 M Coupe (1997 to 2002) and the Z4 Coupe (2006 to 2008).
That explains its odd, long-bonnet, short-wagon body that work particularly well with the Speedtop but earned the original M Coupe the unfortunate ‘clown shoe’ nickname.
Sharing its sleek face with the Skytop, with a pair of narrow LED headlights and a glowing kidney grille and vented bonnet, the doors with their unusual fin handles carry over, while at the rear the slim LED taillights and large exhaust tips are also shared with the roadster.
Above its belt the Speedtop is new, with a rakish rear roofline that gets unique glass and a sculptured tailgate.
Created to carry enough luggage for two for a weekend getaway, designers resisted the temptation to shoehorn in a pair of rear seats, instead creating extra stowage space.
Within the rear boot the luggage area is covered in leather and includes straps to tie bags down.
Snap up a Speedtop and BMW will throw in bespoke luggage made by Italian firm, Schedoni.
Inside, some may recognise the dash from the 8 Series, with the two-door wagon getting the optional crystal gear lever.
Elsewhere, like the roadster, BMW has used the highest-grade materials throughout to help owners feel like they’re getting their money’s worth.
There’s also two-tone leather that blends Sundown Maroon and Moonstone White hides.

Under the bonnet BMW confirmed at Villa d’Este that the Speedtop would come equipped with the same 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that produces 460kW and 750Nm of torque, the urge channelled via an eight-speed automatic.
Tipped to weigh less than a BMW M8, it’s thought the new limited-run 2025 BMW Speedtop will be capable of a 0-100km/h dash in around 3.0 seconds.
It’s not the first time BMW has teased us with the prospect of an M Coupe iteration of a Z4 Coupe revival. Back in 2023 the Bavarian car-maker unwrapped a Touring Coupe based on the current Z4 roadster, although that car was a one-off.
