The 2025 BMW i4 portfolio has been turned on its head and culled down to just one variant, with only the entry-level eDrive35 remaining on sale in Australia, albeit updated with more range and equipment.
Usually when a brand culls a model line down to just one variant, it’s a well-equipped mid-ranger or loaded flagship that gets a stay of execution, but BMW has done the opposite and spared its entry-level i4 rather than the dearer versions.
And that’s because the eDrive35 has accounted for more than 75 per cent of all i4 sales in Australia despite only being added to the line-up in the fourth quarter of 2023 – the i4 launched here in early 2022.
Updated in Europe earlier this year, the new i4 eDrive35 will arrive Down Under wearing new kidney grilles with a diamond-textured surface, new headlights and the M Sport Package as standard, the latter complemented within the cabin by a D-shaped M leather steering wheel, heated front seats, brushed aluminium trim and a powered glass sunroof.
The whole package rides on M light 18-inch alloys and is powered by the familiar 210kW/400Nm single-motor electric powertrain (rear-drive, 66.4kWh battery).
“In complement to the styling enhancements, the updated BMW i4 is now fitted with silicon carbide semiconductor components in the power electronics (SiC inverter), reducing consumption by around 4.5 per cent,” BMW said in a statement.
“This results in an overall improvement in driving range by 18km, raising it to 448km from 430km of its predecessor, according to the ADR 81/02 testing cycle.”
As stated above, the updated BMW i4 will arrive in local showrooms in the coming months from $88,900 plus on-road costs, marking a subtle $1100 price increase over the previous model and meaning it’s still exempt from the Fringe Benefits Tax.
