BYD Australia has started drip feeding details of its inbound Atto 1 and Atto 2 EVs ahead of their release later this year, with each set to be offered in two guises.
The 2025 BYD Atto 1 will become Australia’s cheapest EV when it enters showrooms from less than $25,000 plus on-road costs.
That stark figure will predictably apply to the entry-level Essential variant which will be powered by a 65kW/175Nm e-motor and a 30kWh Blade battery pack, a combination yielding an effective range of up to 220km.
The dearer Premium meantime will offer a gruntier 115kW/220Nm motor and a bigger 43.2kWh battery good for up to 320km of range.
Headline equipment shared between the two includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, synthetic leather seats, six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and BYD’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
As for the Atto 2, both the Dynamic and Premium variants feature a 130kW/290Nm e-motor, a 51.3kWh Blade battery, up to 345km of range and 82kW DC fast charging capabilities.
Equipment highlights on the latter comprise a 360-degree camera (vs a reversing camera for the Dynamic), a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen (vs 10.1 inches), power-adjustable heated and cooled front seats, an eight-speaker sound system (vs four) and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
BYD Australia is already taking expressions of interest in both these models and will officially open order books in the middle of next month, but it’s unclear exactly when deliveries will start.
At the time of writing, the BYD Dolphin Essential is Australia’s cheapest EV at $29,990 plus on-road costs, followed by the GWM Ora Lux at $35,990 drive-away.
