It’s no secret Ferrari is working on its first battery-electric model and while that car is still probably another six to 12 months away from a reveal, internet sleuths have set about imagining what the milestone model could look like.
These renders out of Europe depict a Purosangue-inspired five-door crossover not overly dissimilar to the Kia EV6 in stature but wearing plenty of design cues pinched from other models.
Ferrari is hardly the first high-end marque to go abstract with its first EV – just look at the Lamborghini Lanzador – and will by no means be the last, but there’s equally no guarantee the unnamed model will look like this.
Word is Ferrari has labelled the spied prototype as a mule as opposed to a pre-production model, so there’s a fair chance the finished product will look quite different to the rendered vehicle.
Even so, the boffins at Maranello have been diversifying the brand’s line-up for a while now, and the prospects of a five-door EV are decent, seeing as it could slot between the Roma and Purosangue as an unofficial GTC Lusso successor.
No details of the upcoming EV have been announced at the time of writing; however Ferrari executives have confirmed there’s been some strong interest and that the EV will live up to the Prancing Horse badge.
“So far I can say there’s some enthusiasm around it, but there are also some people that have been around the brand for decades that are more sceptical about it,” Ferrari Australasia president Jan Hendrik Voss said.
“For sure it’s going to be something very Ferrari and very unique.”
Global marketing director Emanuele Carando later doubled down and said the model would be “a true Ferrari” with undeniable authenticity and a sonorous soundtrack.
