2025 Genesis G80 Black hits Aussie showrooms

Luxury sedan puts its Darth Vader costume on as the existing 3.5T AWD gets some handy upgrades

The News

The 2025 Genesis G80 line-up has grown from three variants to four for the new model year following the addition of the new mid-range 3.5T Black AWD, plus a couple of other key spec alterations for the existing variants.

The Key Details

  • New 3.5T Black AWD costs $125,200 plus on-road costs
  • Priced as the penultimate petrol but marketed as the new flagship
  • Standard trim rebadged as ‘Signature’
  • Standard 3.5T AWD becomes ‘Signature Sport’

The Finer Details

As one might ascertain from the nameplate, the 2025 Genesis G80 3.5T Black AWD’s main attraction is its black-out aesthetic: grille mesh, badging, 20-inch wheels, headlight bezels, body cladding, trim and brake calipers.

It backs up the Vader look with an equally dark interior, with virtually every surface and material – the Nappa leather upholstery, stitching, wood trim, metal trim accents, displays/graphics, speaker grills – either black or darkened.

No changes have been made to the twin-turbo 3.8-litre V6 (279kW/530Nm) under the bonnet, nor the eight-speed automatic transmission or full-time all-wheel-drive system it operates through.

But there have been changes to the mechanical make-up of what’s now known as the 3.5T Signature Sport AWD; the previously optional Sport Package has been made standard – hence the new suffix – which means customers now score rear-wheel steering, a limited-slip rear differential, a more aggressive body kit and five-spoke 20-inch alloys shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber straight out of the box.

The enhancements add $6000 to the asking price and in turn, make the Signature Sport more expensive than the Black, despite the latter being pitched as the flagship.

No changes of any description (including price) have been made to the base 2.5T RWD Signature.

The Road Ahead

The current-generation G80 has been on sale in Australia since mid-2019, meaning it’s now likely in the twilight years of its lifecycle.

How much does the 2025 Genesis G80 cost?
2.5T Signature RWD – $104,200
3.5T Black AWD – $125,200
3.5T Signature Sport AWD – $127,200
Signature Electrified AWD – $155,000
* Prices exclude on-road costs
