2025 GMC Yukon Denali outmuscles LandCruiser and Patrol for towing

Full-size American luxury SUV can outhaul the likes of Toyota and Nissan but unbraked towing is the same as its rivals

The 2025 GMC Yukon Denali will arrive with class-leading braked towing capacity that beats all its rivals but still trails the closely-related Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pick-up by a long way.

When local deliveries of the new GMC Yukon Denali begin this May, the full-size luxury SUV has been rated to tow up to 3628kg - beating the 3500kg rating the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, Lexus LX and V8-powered Nissan Patrol is limited to.

But when it comes to unbraked towing, the large GMC matches the 750kg limit of its rivals, while its Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) is capped at 3447kg; more than the LandCruiser's 3280kg GVM.

Ahead of its launch General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) had previously promised class-leading towing for its new flagship SUV but the latest 3628kg rating is still some way off the 4500kg the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 can haul, admittedly with a larger 70mm tow ball.

On sale now, GMSV recently had to announce a last-minute $5000 price rise just weeks before Australian deliveries begin next month.

The GMC Yukon Denali will now cost $174,990 before on-road costs, up from the $169,990 (plus ORCs) originally promised for the big flagship SUV.

Built in Texas before being converted to right-hand drive in Melbourne, the recent price rises were triggered because of the "ongoing foreign exchange rate volatility", said GMSV.

The good news is, for customers who ordered their truck before the price bump, GMSV has confirmed it will honour the Yukon Denali's earlier pricing.

Instead of the usual turbocharged V6 turbo-diesel, the full-size Yukon comes with a naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 that produces 313kW and 624Nm and is combined with a ten-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
