Hyundai has finally given the world a glimpse of the production-spec IONIQ 9 – formerly the IONIQ 7 – ahead of its global debut next fortnight.
Teased via a quartet of images, very little looks to have changed between the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 9 and the preceding Seven EV concept shown at the 2021 LA motor show, save for the width of the ‘parametric pixel’ front lighting signature, alloy wheel design and a few select character lines.
There’s no doubt more will have changed, and we expect the production car to have shed the concept’s suicide rear doors, pixel headlamps and lounge interior in favour of more traditional configurations.
That said, the teased vehicle still doesn’t have wing mirrors – unlike the camouflaged prototype spotted in July last year – and appears to have kept the seamless windscreen and glasshouse.
There’s no denying the IONIQ 9 will look radically different to its similarly-sized and mechanically-related Kia EV9, even if the two models share the same e-GMP architecture and mechanical hardware.
Expect the big Hyundai to offer the choice of single- and dual-motor powertrains with outputs ranging from 160kW/350Nm to 283kW/700Nm depending on the motor count, and two different battery capacities: 76.1kWh and 99.8kWh – the former is likely to be reserved for the base models only.
There’s no word yet as to if a high-performance N version is in the works but the ongoing development of the 2025 Kia EV9 GT is certainly a step in the right direction.
“Starting from October 30, Hyundai Motor will be releasing teaser content through its social channels, leading up to IONIQ 9’s world premiere in November,” a company spokesperson said.
“More detailed information about the world premiere will be delivered soon.”
Hyundai Australia has previously confirmed the IONIQ 9 will land Down Under in the early stages of next year, with pricing set to start north of $100,000 plus on-road costs.
