The special edition Isuzu MU-X Tour Mate has returned to showrooms just 12 months on from the previous version, once again offering a road trip-ready combination of genuine accessories and value.
The MU-X Tour Mate is aimed specifically at the caravanning crowd but doesn’t usually emerge until the end of a model’s lifecycle – odd since the MU-X was only facelifted earlier this year and just updated with a bigger entry-level engine.
Speaking of engines, the special edition features the full-sized 140kW/450Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel unit that’s made the MU-X and its D-MAX ute sibling a beacon of mechanical reliability and contributed to their reputation as handy tow vehicles.
Isuzu says the collated accessories would be worth some $9000 when specced individually on an LS-T, equating to a $7600 value increase when examining retail prices.
Being an LS-T underneath, the Tour Mate comes with all the usual goodies like heated and power-adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, 20-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate controls, idle stop-start, side steps, a 9.0-inch infotainment system, sat-nav, smartphone mirroring, ambient lighting, rough terrain mode and bi-LED headlights.
Low range gearing and a rear differential lock pair with the rough terrain mode for some very reasonable off-road chops.
The 2025 Isuzu MU-X Tour Mate is rated to tow 3500kg (braked) and available to order now, however it’s unclear how long it will be available for.
All Isuzu Ute models are covered by a six-year/unlimited-kilometre factory warranty.
