KGM SsangYong will soon join the emerging electrified pick-up market with an all-new battery-electric ute dubbed the Musso EV, though it will have nothing to do with the familiar ladder-frame turbo-diesel model beyond its name.
Essentially the production version of the 0100 concept shown in 2023, no concrete details of the 2025 KGM SsangYong Musso EV have been revealed beyond the nameplate and that it’s coming to Australia.
KGM SsangYong’s local division hasn’t divulged any more information than that, however the global head office has thus far released a singular teaser image and confirmed the model will be on sale in Korea by the end of this quarter.
“The Musso EV is a model that has the operating economy of an electric vehicle, the original usability of a pickup truck, and a practical style, and can be customised in various styles,” a company spokesperson said.
“The model will be pre-exhibited at the 2025 Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival and is scheduled to be released within the first quarter of this year.”
Unofficial images of the Musso EV display at the festival have already surfaced online, specifically on the AutoSpy forum, and show the vehicle to be a dead ringer for the 0100, which in turn took inspiration from the Torres EVX medium SUV.
KGM SsangYong originally described the concept as an “urban electric pickup” that “emphasises practicality” so owners “can enjoy a lifestyle that encompasses the city and the outdoors”.
Odds are then this isn’t a genuine workhorse like the current Musso which dates back to 2018.
With the second-gen Musso ute closing in on eight years old, KGM SsangYong has started teasing the third generation which looks primed to scare the bejesus out of challenger offerings like the GWM Cannon and LDV Terron 9 with newfound levels of aggression and capability.
If the production vehicles look anything like the concept art – as most recent models from the brand have – the next Musso could be quite the dark horse and possibly even challenge the segment heavyweights.
