The 2025 Kia EV9 GT has been approved for sale in Australia and will seemingly be offered here in both six- and seven-seat configurations, the latter almost certainly the default option.
Destined for local showrooms in the closing stages of the year, the big rig will serve as the mothership of Kia Australia’s passenger and SUV fleet at more than $130,000 plus on-road costs.
Good for 0-100km/h in a claimed 4.6 seconds, the EV9 GT is powered by a 374kW/740Nm dual-motor powertrain that draws current from the same 99.8 kWh battery pack as the lesser GT-Line and Earth variants, though its extra performance chops trim the range to 451km (WLTP).
Australian pricing and specification details are all yet to be announced, but odds are the hot family bus will mirror the EV6 GT and come with a largely global spec comprising performance-tuned adaptive suspension, 21-inch GT wheels, enlarged brakes, heated and cooled bucket front seats, lime trim accents, digital grille, dual sunroofs, a six-speed virtual transmission, limited-slip rear differential and plenty more.
The local homologation data does little to further the plot beyond the inevitably optional captain’s chair second row (six-seat layout), but the British pricing announcement does.
That enhanced suspension, for instance, is paired with Genesis’ road preview system which uses a camera to monitor the road ahead and adjust the dampers in preparation for oncoming bumps and road irregularities – albeit with a localised tune for the springs and dampers.
The seats are lined with artificial leather and suede, the outer rear seats (middle row) are heated and cooled, the heated steering wheel is power-adjustable, the pedals are alloy, Active Sound design pairs with the virtual transmission and the infotainment system plays through a 14-speaker Meridian sound system.
Other equipment highlights include wireless smartphone mirroring, a panoramic display comprising the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 5.3-inch climate control interface and 12.3-inch infotainment interface, plus a customisable head-up display, wireless phone charger, connected services and all the latest Hyundai Motor Group safety systems.
Pricing in the UK starts from £82,185 plus costs, translating to a hefty $A170,379.
It should be noted, however, shipping from Korea to Australia is much simpler and cheaper than to the UK, so we can safely assume local EV9 GTs won’t eclipse the $150,000 barrier.
