The 2025 Mazda EZ-60 has been revealed at the 2025 Shanghai motor show ahead of its global launch later this year, with the new mid-size SUV confirmed to come with both EV and plug-in hybrid power.
Inspired heavily by the well-received ARATA concept that was shown off last year, the new Mazda EZ-60 measures in at 4850mm long, 1935mm wide and 1620mm tall with a 2902mm wheelbase, making it 60mm longer, 47mm narrower and 4mm shorter than a Tesla Model Y, but with a 12mm longer wheelbase.
Mazda already released pictures for the exterior and interior styling, revealing the Mazda's smart new look that appears a lot more visually arresting than the current CX-60.
Inside, we've also seen the huge 26.45-inch 5K ultra-wide display that incorporates both the digital dash, infotainment and climate control functions.
Combined with a 23-speaker Dolby Atmos sounds system, Mazda promises cinema quality sound to match its panoramic screen and the seating system includes speakers in the front head rests, not to mention multi-actuating and reclining front seats for a touch of luxury.
Featuring an SUV-coupe like profile, boot space in the rear is limited to just 350 litres (2036 litres with the second row folded) but there's a further 126 litres of space to be found in the frunk.
Based on the same Changan EPA platform as the Deepal S07, the EZ-60 gets a range-extender hybrid that combines a 72kW 1.5-litre engine, that's used as a generator, with a 190kW electric motor and a 31.73kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery that offers up to 160km of electric range.
It's not clear if this PHEV powertrain will be deployed in Australia under the Deepal S07.
The EV powertrain has yet to be confirmed but it's thought the Mazda EZ-60 should bag the option of either a 68.8kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery or a more energy dense 80kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) power pack.
Details of the the EV powertrain have not been released but the Mazda is tipped to share the Deepal S07’s single e-motor that produces 160kW and 330Nm.
If so, expect a zero to 100km/h dash of around 7.9 seconds with a range of around 475km on the WLTP test cycle.
A more powerful 190kW e-motor might also be offered.
The drawback of using the S07’s powertrain is the battery can only be topped up at up to 92kW via a fast DC charger. Most rivals have significantly faster charging bandwidth.
At the Chinese show Mazda revealed the EZ-60 comes with nine airbags and level 2 autonomous driving aids that might be upgraded later via over the air (OTA) updates.
As it is the EZ-60 comes with five HD cameras, five millimetre-wave radars, twelve ultrasonic sensors to provide 360-degree view for the computers for self-driving.
Changan Mazda reconfirmed in Shanghai that the 2025 Mazda EZ-60 would be offered to Mazda global markets where in Europe it's expected to be renamed the CX-6e.
There's no word yet on whether the Mazda EZ-60 is on Mazda Australia's radar but it's hotly tipped to arrive here given the new mid-size electric SUV has already been green lit for the right-hand drive UK market.
