2025 Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4Matic+ priced

AMG’s V8-killing six-cylinder PHEV large sedan is coming Down Under this year

The 2025 Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4Matic+ is headed to Australia, with order books opening today and pricing set at $199,900 plus on-road costs for what’s, currently at least, the hottest E-Class available globally.

In exchange for your near enough $200k, you’ll get a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-petrol-electric plug-in hybrid powertrain outputting a combined 450kW/750Nm and capable of dispatching 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

Drive is sent to all four wheels via a nine-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission while the whole package rides on adaptive AMG suspension as standard, the latter coupled with a rear axle steering system in the name of agility and manoeuvrability.

While undeniably fast, the E 53 can also be frugal and return an NEDC-tested combined fuel economy of 1.7L/100km, with up to 100km of electric range on offer from the 28.6kWh battery pack.

Speaking of electric-drive, the 120kW e-motor can propel the M5-stalker at up to 140km/h.

Standard inclusions are predictably plentiful and in abundance, with just a handful of the big ticket items comprising power adjustable and climatised AMG sports seats wrapped in Nappa leather, an AMG performance steering wheel, MBUX Superscreen (14.4-inch central display, 12.3-inch passenger display), active ambient lighting, four-zone climate control, a 17-speaker Burmester 4D surround sound system, wireless phone charging and smartphone mirroring.

More gear can be added via the optional Energising Package Plus ($5300), AMG Performance Seat Package ($5000) and AMG Carbon Fibre Package ($6000), albeit to varying degrees and each with their own unique inclusions.

Helping tailor the powertrain to the task at hand are the Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Smoothness, Individual, Electric and Battery Hold drive modes while Race Start (launch control) aids the big sedan in getting off the mark as quickly as possible.

Countering the immense go power is a high-performance braking system packing 370x36mm front (steel) rotors and 360x26mm rears, clamped by four-piston calipers and floating single-piston callipers respectively.

A high-performance carbon-ceramic set-up with six-pot front calipers is optionally available.

Rolling stock comes in the form of 20-inch light-alloy wheels as standard, though 21s are being offered optionally.
