Mercedes-Benz has a new show car that blends a retro-inspired design with innovative and futuristic technology, including the brand’s range-boosting solar paint.
Harping back to the classic W 108, W 111 and 600 Pullman, the Vision Iconic’s grille is both retro-inspired and as modern as they come, featuring a smoked-glass lattice structure and integrated contour lighting.
Tracking your way down to the cabin – it’s a long way – the driver and passenger climb onto a split bench front seat and are greeted by a floating glass dashboard containing both analogue and digital instruments inspired by high-end watches.
The seat is upholstered in deep blue velvet and contrasts against the brass, silver-gold and pearl-coloured trim of the door panels, dash and four-spoke steering wheel.
“Vision Iconic embodies our vision for the future of mobility,” Mercedes-Benz Group chief technical officer Marcus Schäfer said.
“With groundbreaking innovations such as neuromorphic computing, steer-by-wire, solar paint, and Level 4, highly automated driving, along with state-of-the-art technology, we are setting new standards for the electric and digital age.”
There are no immediate plans to for the Vision Iconic to sprout a production spin-of any time soon, thought we wouldn’t be surprised if Batman or Cruella de Vil enquired about a one-off commission.
