The 2025 Mercedes-Maybach SL Monogram has been unveiled at Monterey Car Week in California, giving us our first look at the ultra-luxurious droptop that’s been tipped as the world’s most expensive roadster.
Set to be offered alongside the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, GLS and EQS SUV, the new SL Monogram features some extensive changes over the Mercedes-AMG SL it’s based on which include a pair of ‘speed bumps’ behind the driver and passenger along with bespoke front and rear bumpers.
Look closer and you’ll also spot plenty of new chrome accents, a new vertical slat grille, new Digital Light LED headlamps with rose-gold elements, plus two options of 21-inch wheel design.
Owners will initially only be able to choose from a red or white exterior colourway, each paired with a black bonnet and the Maybach logo imprinted on the surface beneath a layer of clear coat.
The fabric roof is also offered with a logo pattern, mirroring the bonnet.
Within, the SL’s rear seats have been deleted to make room for the double-bubble tonneau, while the rest of the standard SL cabin carries over largely unchanged, albeit with higher-grade materials and a finish befitting of its inevitably towering price tag.
Some of the new trim introduced include white Nappa leather, galvanised silver for the seat back and high-polish metals used throughout.
Powering the SL Monogram is the same 430kW twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre mild-hybrid V8 found under the bonnet of the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4Matic+, along with the same nine-speed automatic, variable all-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering systems.
Mercedes claims the SL Monogram will launch from 0-100km/h in 4.1 seconds and push on to a top speed of 260km/h.
There’s no word on pricing yet, but it would be a safe bet to assume the SL Monogram will cost quite a bit more Down Under than its $374,900 SL 63 donor car.
