Mercedes-Benz has locked in its new ultra-luxurious Mythos Series sub-brand for 2025 that’s likely to be timed with the launch of what’s rumoured to be its first model – a wild Mercedes-Maybach SL speedster.
First announced back in 2022, the Mythos Series debut was confirmed last week during Mercedes-Benz’s 2023 financial results announcement.
Created to sit above its already ultra-luxurious Mercedes-Maybach brand, the Mythos Series will reportedly offer buyers even greater exclusivity and be produced in strictly limited numbers.
Back in May 2022, Mercedes-Benz chief designer Gorden Wagener posted an image of the Mercedes-Maybach SL Mythos Series on his Instagram account that revealed it will come with the option of two-tone paint featuring its badge etched multiple times within the bonnet’s black paint.
Instead of just simply slapping on fancier paint, an earlier teaser suggests the flagship SL will also lose its two rear seats and gain a classic speedster look, complete with cut-down windscreen and a pair of speed bumps behind the driver and passenger for extra visual drama.
Beneath the bonnet it’s thought the Mercedes-Maybach SL could sport even more power, exceeding the incredible 600kW the SL E Performance musters.
Described as a range of “highly exclusive collectible cars”, the Mythos Series will allow Benz to charge a huge premium, which in the case of the SL could see it pitched as a Ferrari or Lamborghini rival.
Other models in the pipeline, meanwhile, will target Rolls-Royce and Bentley.
Helping justify the launch of another ultra-luxurious sub-brand was the news that Mercedes-Maybach sales grew by 19 per cent in 2023, owing to strong demand for the Mercedes-Maybach GLS and S-Class.
There’s no word yet if all Mythos Series models will be based on a core Mercedes-Benz model or if they will also include bespoke one-off commissions.
