UPDATE 30/04/2025: MG Motor Australia has locked in a $40,490 drive-away starting price for its all-new S5 EV compact electric SUV.
As detailed below, four variants are being offered in our market, all them available for less than $48,000 drive-away. A full pricing breakdown can be found at the bottom of this update.
The S5 EV is one of more than eight MG models destined for Australia in 2025 with others set to include a seven-seat SUV, battery-electric cousin of the mid-sized HS which itself will gain more variants and the MG7 fastback sedan.
Original, 04/04/2025: MG Motor Australia has detailed its new-generation replacement for the retiring ZS EV compact SUV, the 2025 MG S5 EV, ahead of its imminent arrive in local showrooms.
Aussie pricing for the new model hasn’t been confirmed just yet, however we do have pretty much every other detail of the S5 EV, including mechanical make-up, dimensions and equipment levels.
For starters, there’ll be two battery capacities on offer – 49kWh and 62kWh – each powering a rear-mounted 125kW/250Nm electric motor and providing between 410km and 515km of NEDC range depending on the variant.
The smaller of the two batteries can be charged at up to 120kW when using a DC fast charger for a claimed 19-minutes 30-80 per cent top-up – exactly the same as the bigger unit which can be charged at up to 150kW.
Predictably the 62kWh versions are heavier than their 49kWh counterparts, resulting in slower 0-100km/h times across the board: 8.0s for the Excite 49kWh and 8.2s for the corresponding Essence vs 8.2s for the Excite 62kWh and 8.6s for the long-range Essence.
Headline equipment on the Excite trim includes cloth upholstery, 17-inch alloys, single-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, adaptive cruise control, four-speaker sound system, a 12.8-inch infotainment system, wireless CarPlay and native sat-nav.
The Essence ups the ante with faux leather upholstery, 18-inch alloys, a six-speaker sound system, a powered tailgate, wireless phone charging, rain-sensing wipers, a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats and steering wheel, power-adjustable driver’s seats and voice command.
The S5 EV measures 4476mm long, 1849mm wide, 1621mm tall and 2730mm between the axles, making it considerably bigger than the ZS EV it’s replacing and thereby offering more room inside the cabin – the 453-litre boot expands out to 1441 litres when the seats are folded flat.
Colour choices will comprise Dover White, Black Pearl Metallic, Camden Grey Metallic, Diamond Red Metallic, Sterling Silver Metallic, Piccadilly Blue Metallic and Champagne Gold Metallic while the interior will be offered in either light or dark themes.
The S5 EV will make its national debut this weekend at the Melbourne motor show with pricing expected to start somewhere between $45,000 and $50,000 drive-away.
