2025 Mitsubishi Destinator breaks cover as new family SUV for ASEAN market

Mitsubishi has debuted a tough-looking new three-row SUV, but it isn’t the new-generation Pajero Sport.

The 2025 Mitsubishi Destinator is roughly the same size as the established Outlander but sits on a longer wheelbase, stands higher off the ground and boasts superior off-road angles – not that it can really go off-road.

But whereas the Outlander is a true global model, the Destinator has been designed and developed for ASEAN markets like Indonesia (where it’s produced), Vietnam, the Philippines and South Asia, plus Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.

A 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine (120kW/250Nm) hides under the bonnet and drives the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission.

Given it’s only just made its global debut and not on the cards for Australia, we don’t have a full breakdown of the Destinator’s model range or individual equipment levels, but do know the flagship will offer a panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, 8.0-inch digital driver’s display, 18-inch alloys and a premium Yamaha sound system.

Recently published spy imagery of the 2026 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport – now tipped to ditch the Sport suffix – suggest the Destinator could be a cosmetic warm-up act for the upcoming flagship off-roader expected to be (mechanically) spun-off the current Triton pick-up truck.
