SPY PICS: 2025 Nissan Patrol spotted testing in UAE

A few key differences between Y62 and Y63 can be seen as they share the same tarmac

The all-new 2025 Nissan Patrol has just been spotted testing in the Middle East – specifically the UAE – under a thick black veil, with amateur spy images and footage emerging on social media overnight.

Published to Instagram by car_secrets, the spy images show not one but two Y63 prototypes draped in black camouflage in convoy through Al Ain with a batch of Y62s in tow, however, the camo doesn’t do an especially good job of masking the development vehicles’ key design cues.

We already know the new Patrol won’t look revolutionarily different to its predecessor – as evidenced by the Infiniti QX Monograph concept – and that’s clear for all to see given the prototypes are being tailed by the current model.

What’s different, however, are the minimalist vertical tail-light clusters perched on either side of the reshaped tailgate, the sleeker rear bumper profile and the more bulbous front-end design.

The new Patrol’s side profile doesn’t look to have been altered much beyond that boofier nose, what looks to be a disguised belt line and an enlarged rear spoiler. But, again, we aren’t expecting a complete aesthetic overhaul as per the new Toyota Prado.

In a move that’ll undoubtedly break the hearts of Y62 fans everywhere, the current Patrol’s lusty 5.6-litre petrol V8 is widely expected to be retired in favour of a new twin-turbo petrol V6 that’s set to deliver more power and torque than the big bent-eight, while drastically improving the Patrol’s fuel economy and emissions.

Unsubstantiated reports and rumours claim the new mill will develop 318kW – up from 298kW – and will be paired to the same nine-speed automatic transmission as seen in the Nissan Pathfinder.

car_secrets also claims the Y63 will feature height-adjustable suspension as well as a new panoramic cockpit comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment system when it debuts in “August 2024 as a model 2025”.

Odds are we’ll see the new-generation Infiniti QX80 – the Patrol’s upmarket US cousin – before we see the Nissan version, but the big new luxury off-roader’s mechanical make-up should tell us all we need to know about the volume-selling new Y63 Patrol well before it arrives Down Under around mid-2025.
