2025 Nissan X-TRAIL PHEV confirmed

Nissan’s medium SUV will inherit the Outlander PHEV’s advanced powertrain… in the US

The 2025 Nissan X-TRAIL will be offered with the option of an advanced plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain pinched straight out of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV in the US, however it’s unclear at this stage if similar plans are firming for Australia.

Understood to be a headline act of a major 2026 model year overhaul, news of the X-TRAIL (Rogue) PHEV was broken by Car & Driver and is being tipped to coincide with the North American release of Nissan’s e-Power hybrid system.

It’s thought the Nissan will be mechanically identical to the Outlander which combines a naturally-aspirated 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors and a 22.7kWh lithium-ion battery.

There’s no word on whether or not the Rogue PHEV will be offered globally seeing as it’s expected to be produced in Tennessee, but reports out of Japan suggest plug-in versions of both the X-TRAIL and smaller QASHQAI are on the cards for Europe.
