Details of the all-new 2025 Peugeot 3008 have surfaced months before you were supposed to see them, revealing how the French car-maker's new mid-size SUV is shaping up ahead of its Australian debut.
Right now there are two powertrains and four model-grades of the Peugeot 3008 in Australia, priced from $50,075 for the entry-level model powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine (133kW/250Nm) and topping out at $82,915 for the muscular plug-in hybrid version (222kW/520Nm) flagship version.
According to government documents, when the third-gen Peugeot 3008 arrives Down Under later in the year it will be available with a fully electrified range of new powertrains, including a new entry 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder that's already available in both the 208 and larger 308 passenger cars.
Competing in the same segment as the Volkswagen Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson and Mazda CX-5, the new 3008 mid-size SUV’s mild-hybrid engine pumps out 100kW/230Nm.
It is boosted by Peugeot's latest 48-volt mild-hybrid tech that combines a small 0.89kWh lithium-ion battery and a six-speed dual-clutch transmission that neatly incorporates a small e-motor.
Thanks to its added electrification on the Euro WLTP test cycle, Peugeot claims its latest 3008 can average between 5.4L/100km and 6.3L/100km.
That figure is impressive, compared to the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid FWD that can average between 5.7L/100km to 5.8L/100km (WLTP).
When it arrives, the new petrol-electric 3008 will be strictly front-wheel drive and capable of a 0-100km/h dash of around 10.2 seconds, with a 201km/h top speed.
Weighing in at 1573kg, the Peugeot 3008 will be able to tow up to 1200kg.
Arriving here potentially before the end of the year, Peugeot is plotting to introduce two variants, with even the base model riding on large 19-inch alloy wheels.
High-level lighting – that's thought to include LED matrix headlamps – will be available for the first time on the higher-grade model.
Peugeot Australia will take a similar tack with its equally all-new E-3008 that will land here before the end of this year and go head-to-head with the likes of the Tesla Model Y and BYD Atto 3.
The new report suggest that 20-inch wheels will be available, along with premium lighting on the flagship E-3008 that initially will be offered exclusively with one powertrain.
Combining a 73kWh battery with a single 157kW e-motor, the E-3008 can cover up to 525km on the WLTP test cycle according to Peugeot.
There is also a the faster flagship 240kW, all-wheel drive version already available in Europe.
In other overseas markets, a long-range variant will be available with a 98kWh battery pack for a very competitive 700km range. It’s not clear if this battery pack nor the high performance 240kW version will be offered locally.
Another piece of the puzzle revealed by local intel shows that mild-hybrid versions of the Peugeot 3008 come with a basic torsion beam rear suspension, where the all-electric versions get a more sophisticated multi-link set-up for a better ride and more agile handling.
More details through official channels will be released soon as Peugeot Australia builds to the launch of 2025 Peugeot 3008 and E-3008.
