2025 Polestar 3 sets Guinness World Record for range
Over almost 23 hours, a trio of Brits beat the claimed WLTP range by almost 230km, but they were dawdled to do itThe 2026 Polestar 3 premium SUV has set a new Guinness World Record for distance travelled on a single charge by an SUV after covering 935.44km on UK roads in one day.
The record drive involving Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor took a mammoth 22 hours and 57 minutes with three expert efficiency drivers taking turns behind the wheel.
The journey included single-track lanes, dual-lane highways and country roads in mixed weather conditions, including range-sapping rain.
Despite that, the drivers who each drove in three-hour shifts averaged just 12.1kWh/100km, compared to the 20kWh/100km you’d normally expect to achieve in the 2.4-tonne large SUV.
There is a catch though. Over almost 23 hours behind the wheel, drivers Sam Clark, Kevin Brooker and Richard Parker averaged little more than 40km/h.
Exceeding the Polestar 3's claimed WLTP range of 706km by more than 229km, the new world record drive sees the Sino-Swedish brand beat the impressive 916.75km record that was set using a Ford Mustang Mach-E in 2024.
According to the drivers, the Polestar was so efficient during its lap of the UK that once it had driven 706km (its official WLTP figure), the battery still displayed a 20 per cent charge remaining.
Even after the battery was fully drained and displayed a 0 per cent charge warning the large heavy SUV still drove another 12.8km.
Conforming with the regulations set by Guinness, the Polestar 3 that took part in the trial was completely unmodified, riding on its standard 20-inch alloy wheels that were fitted with stock Michelin Sport 4 EV tyres.
The Long Range is the entry-level model in the Polestar 3 line-up, priced from $116,754 plus on-road charges. There are also dual motor Polestar 3 models on-sale in Australia priced from $131,054.
Adjudicated by Guinness World Record judges, the range attempt was independently monitored and then verified thanks to video footage, odometer readings, GPS data and the onboard battery charge level indicators.
It's not likely the latest range record will remain in place long. Earlier this month a full-size very lightly modified Chevrolet Silverado pick-up set an unofficial record in the States after it travelled an incredible 1704.6km on a single charge.
Helping it travel almost twice as far as the Polestar 3, and even further than the official World Record holding Lucid Air (1205km) sedan, the Silverado EV used for the unofficial record came equipped with GM's flagship 205kWh battery.
It also completed the drive in a series of slow one-hour sessions rather than driving continuously.
