The 2025 RAM 1200 ute has emerged overseas in leaked photos ahead of its launch in the Mexican market, however the US brand’s rival for the dominant Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger has yet to be confirmed for Australia.
Based on the leaked photos and details released overseas, the RAM 1200 is closely related to the Fiat Titano and Peugeot Landtrek utes, which in turn share the same ladder-frame chassis with the Chinese Kaicene F70 and Changan utes.
Available in both single-cab and dual-cab body styles, the RAM 1200 looks like it will differ from both the Fiat and Peugeot with only a RAM-specific grille.
In Mexico, the RAM 1200 will be offered in Tradesman, Bighorn and range-topping Laramie model grades, with the latter only available with a double-cab and 4x4 drivetrain.
All models will be built in China, which opens the door for other exports markets – including Australia.
Measuring in at 5331mm long, the new RAM ute is around 66mm longer than a Toyota HiLux.
Full details have yet to be released but the rugged RAM 1200 Tradesman single-cab is said to have a payload of up to 1200kg, however towing capacity is 3000kg – a little off the class-best 3500kg.
All models are powered by a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 154kW and 320Nm of torque, driving through a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
Rear-wheel drive is standard, with four-wheel drive only available on the 1200 Laramie.
In Mexico, the RAM 1200 Tradesman 4x2 will start from the equivalent of $40,000 Australian dollars.
