The updated 2025 Toyota bZ4X has made its global debut in Europe promising more range, performance and tech when it arrives Down Under in the fourth quarter of the year.
Pricing for the new model will be announced closer to its local introduction, but Toyota Australia has at least detailed what we can expect come October-December: a 74.7kWh battery (up from 71.4kWh), 15 extra kilowatts for the 2WD versions (165kW vs 150kW), a mighty 92kW bump for the AWDs (252kW vs 160kW) and a new 14-inch multimedia screen.
The AWDs’ extra firepower has shaved some 1.8 seconds from its 0-100km/h time to now stop the clock in a claimed 5.1 seconds, putting it very much on par with the dual-motor Hyundai Ioniq 5s and ahead of the inbound VW ID.5 GTX.
As for the range improvements, the single-motor bZ4X should soon be able to cover up to 573km on a single charge while the dual-motors max out at about 520km – both rampant improvements over the current 436km and 411km claims.
Toyota is also promising faster charge times thanks to improved thermal management but hasn’t provided an official figure.
Inside the cabin you’ll find a reworked interior centred around a 14-inch infotainment system while the exterior has been brought closer into line with Toyota’s new-generation products – i.e. more streamlined – and given gloss black fenders “for a more premium feel”.
Odds are the bZ4X’s retail price will increase markedly on account of all the extra range and performance, but we’ll have to wait until later in the year for confirmation.
