The 2025 Toyota GR Corolla has been exposed, bringing an uptick in engine torque, a subtle new look, tweaked suspension and the option of an automatic transmission.
Prices for the updated 2025 Toyota GR Corolla have not been announced ahead of its arrival in Australian showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2024, between October and December.
The eight-speed conventional automatic transmission will join the existing six-speed manual transmission and Toyota reckons the auto cog-swapper will deliver “high-performance shifting in race-track environments”.
Following in the footsteps of the GR Yaris, the facelifted 2025 Toyota GR Corolla also brings an uptick in engine performance from its 1.6-litre turbo-petrol three-cylinder engine. An extra 30Nm is liberated taking peak torque to 400Nm, while power is unchanged at 221kW, which is also slightly below the GR Yaris’s 224kW.
The all-wheel-drive Japanese hot hatch also gets steering wheel paddle shifters to flick between gear ratios and a new central gear stick.
Exterior changes to the 2025 Toyota GR Corolla five-door performance car are focussed on the front end, with a re-sculpted front bumper that’s designed to “optimise the balance of cooling performance and aerodynamic efficiency.”
The suspension has been recalibrated too, the front MacPherson struts and rear multi-links claimed to improve mid-corner grip and acceleration.
The GR Corolla was launched in Australia in 2023, bringing all-wheel-drive and a five-door hatchback body style to its full-blooded ‘GR’ sports car portfolio.
“We have now further enhanced that unique combination with even greater performance and the addition of a new powertrain option that offers the ease and convenience of a race-bred automatic transmission,” said Toyota Australia sales and marketing boss, Sean Hanley.
Pricing for the facelifted 2025 Toyota GR Corolla will confirmed closer to its launch in late 2024. The current GR Corolla GTS is priced from $64,190, excluding on-road costs for the manual version.
